FAST XPERIENCE SWIMMERS PERFORM WELL IN OPEN-WATER SWIM MEET
IN OLDHAM COUNTY
Frankfort, KY, August 27, 2009: Frankfort Area Swim Team (FAST) Xperience team
members competed in the Ohio River Open-Water Swim Meet in North Oldham
County on August 22, 2009. The FAST swimmers performed extremely well taking
the top four spots in both men’s and women’s 800 meter events.
Sydney Bratcher, age 13, finished first for the women with a time of (14.38).
Alexandra Silvernail came in second with a time of (19.54).
In the men’s event, Christopher Franklin and Jacob Silvernail battled for first with
Christopher Franklin finishing just ahead of Jacob Silvernail. Christopher Franklin,
age 13, finished the ½-mile event with a time of (16.55), while Jacob Silvernail, age
12, finished with a time of (17.00). Head Coach, Matthew Painter, competed in the
1.2-mile event in the US Masters competition. Painter, age 50, finished the event
with a time of (33.14).
Coach Matt Painter remarked on the team’s success in this unique, first-ever format
for the team. “Our swimmers finished remarkably well in this event, despite never
having competed in an open-water course before. Open water poses unique
challenges because the athlete not only competes in a longer-yardage event, but
also battles river currents and winds – issues that don’t come into play in the
controlled environment of a pool setting. All four of our swimmers who participated
can be very proud of their performance. I commend them for their willingness to take
on a new challenge.”
